Alex Wernsman was my DPE for my private pilot checkride. Being the first checkride of my flying career, I was quite nervous going into it and unsure what to expect. Alex was great! He was in contact with me a week in advance to help make sure I had all the required hours and documents to be eligible for the checkride, and was in contact with my instructor and me to clear up any discrepancies. On the day of the checkride Alex was well organized and had a friendly and calm demeanor that helped to ease the nerves. He conducted a thorough, fair, and efficient checkride and I walked away with my Private Pilot certificate. Overall, it was a great experience from start to finish. I will certainly be booking my next checkride with Alex and I highly recommend that you do too.
I took my CFI-I checkride with Alex and was blown away by his professionalism and calming demeanor. He helped settle my nerves, while still keeping to an efficient pace throughout the morning. I would highly recommend Alex to other applicants, and I believe you’ll be hard pressed to find another DPE who is more fair and enjoyable to be around.
I had a checkride on August 8th, 2025 with Mr. Wernsman and the process was through but extremely straight forward. All of the checkride questions were important to know and also insightful. The majority of the oral was scenario based which gives a realistic feel to the checkride. The flight portion was quick and he was understanding when the weather or traffic didn’t align with the maneuver being flown or the landing being attempted. Overall, I had a great experience with Alex and would love to work with him again in the future.
